Computer Hood

The Computer Hood facilitates an amplified engagement between user and their preferred technology. It secludes the person inside in a digital enclosure where the outside world is a memory and attention is undivided. Those enjoying this hooded sanctity can relegate communicative interactions with the outside world to nothing more than an ‘on demand’ service. People outside are encouraged to ‘SPEAK’ towards a marked area on the back of the hood. Anything they say will be recorded and saved as an audio file on the computer desktop for perusal at the computer users leisure.

Blind Camera

His Buttons (aka the "Blind Camera") captures a moment at the press of a button. However, the device doesn't have any optical part. The camera memorizes only the time of the picture and immediately searches the net for other photos that have been taken in the same moment.

Essentially, it is a camera that only takes photos that were created by someone who pressed a button somewhere else at that very time as its own button was pressed.

After a few minutes or hours, depending on how soon someone else shares their photo on the web, an image will appear on the screen. In a way, it belongs half to the person who had pressed the button and still remembers that moment. Because of that connection, the photos are never dismissed as random, no matter how enigmatic they may be.

Plug’n Plant

Forget the boring green plasticbox on rusty metalhooks: Steckling is the first flowerpot for architectonically aesthetic balcony-railings. Like a saddle it is sticked ontop the bannister; the two separate plant areas allow versatile kinds of planting.
Diameter and height: 30cms.

Nothing is Nothing

What better present for the person who has everything than a poignant reminder that they want for nothing? This lovingly crafted vial of emptiness is filled to the brim with unfettered nothingness. Free from the burden of possessions, the weight of responsibility, Nothing is as idiotic as it is brilliant.

Indeed even old Macbeth, though mad as a kipper, realised that life, whilst full of sound and fury (and that was before iPods) is inherently daft and ultimately signifies Nothing. And let us not forget, that 'Nothing' is so important that most of our universe - and the contents of a lot of people's heads - appears to be made up of it.

It's a statement, an empty gesture if you will, a nod at the futility of ownership, and yet despite 'Nothing' being nothing, it is of course packed with millions of protons, neutrons and what have you, which is pretty good for Nothing.

Toilet Paper For The Rich

Now tell me… what do the rich and famous wipe their butts with? No, no, not dollar bills. But you can’t seriously think they use the same toilet paper normal people do, do you? That’s why there are products like Renova. These toilet paper rolls come in four colors, are said to be soft and silky, and more importantly, cost enough to make you feel special.

Villain Chair

Admit it — you've always pictured yourself sitting behind a huge stainless steel desk laughing maniacally about your threats to blow up the world unless $10 billion is delivered to you in the next four hours. Well, here's the chair you'll be sitting in. The aptly named Villain Chair ($6,800) is an oversize, futuristic chair made of leather, chrome, steel and aluminum — the hallmarks of an evil villain's office chair.

iBar

iBar is a system for the interactive design of any bar-counter. Integrated video-projectors can project any content on the milky bar-surface. The intelligent tracking system of iBar detects all objects touching the surface. This input is used to let the projected content interact dynamically with the movements on the counter. Objects can be illuminated at their position or virtual objects can be "touched" with the fingers.

The iBar system is ready to be installed completely into any kind of bar-counter, there's no need for any further installations on the ceiling or something like that. The software is flexible and can be adjusted and enhanced.

Kitchen Visualizations

A human-scale display mounted in the kitchen that represents the activities happening in the kitchen in real-time. Also, a cutting board with an integrated scale within a defined area on it's surface, using "electronic ink" display technology.

Both concepts are only a few of the design entries for the International kitchen & Environment Design Competition 2006.

I think it would look great in my home. But wouldn't be funnier if they made something similar to this idea to install in your bedroom?

Cute Lap Slave

Soft goods designer Mary-Ann Williams creates a plethora of intriguing tactile goods including carpets, bowls, furniture, housewares and bags, mostly made of wool felt. Her Plisee laptop bag design falls into a genre that barely exists-- where craftiness meets innovative function, resulting in a cute product that actually does something besides look cute. The looped felt is stacked on edge, not only providing excellent shock absorption, but also creating a flat, rigid base surface for the laptop when in use. They are available in a range of colors and in various sizes for PCs and Macs.

The Brick Sofa

This brick sofa is looking cool (in my humble opinion). But wait till you see what other super designs you can get at Normal Design.

Are You On Line?

Availabot is a physical representation of presence in Instant Messenger applications. Availabot plugs into your computer by USB, stands to attention when your chat buddy comes online, and falls down when they go away. It’s a presence-aware, peripheral-vision USB toy… and because the puppets are made in small numbers on a rapid-prototyping machine, it can look just like you.

The future is here

You are walking down the street at night, when suddenly you see a girl changing pants in the corners of your eye. Amazing, huh? What's really amazing, is that the girl isn't real. It's a 3d-holographic film. And there's more where that came from.

Advancing to the future

Erveryday i hop on the bike, off to work. Ones i get there, the first thing i do is get a cup of coffee. I need my daily cafeine injection in the morning. Then i switch on my trusty Apple. Turn on the software and always surf to a couple of websites. I need this 'distraction' (I call it inspiration) before i get to designing myself. One of the websites i get alot of inspiration from is 2 Advanced. This design company is one of the leading webdesign companies in the world... if you ask me. Anywayzzzz.. they have a new website I just found out. So enjoy...!

Swiss Knife Seating Unit

This playful Swiss Army-inspired seating landscape is cut, to fold, like a knife. The Swiss knife seating unit is product design done on the scale of furniture, reinterpreted everybody's favorite airplane-banned carry-on as seating that can be open (360 degrees) or closed. The design goal is to allow you to minimize your furnishings, maybe you can get away with just one piece that you unfold for parties.

The steadily-rising price of oil, and, in London, a congestion charge of £8 for cars entering the centre of the city, mean more and more people are traveling by bike. Cheap, quick and relatively healthy (if you don't suck in lungfuls of fumes) the downsides are being caught out by the British weather and where to put your bike when you arrive.

So would you want a Cyclepod?

Fashion Hotels

Fashion wants to colonize the worlds it seems. Not content with just dressing us, some brands are fast moving moving into the hotel business. Apart from Versace, Armani & Bulgari - Byblos is now making waves with its stunning Art Hotel Villa Amista in Italy. Byblos owner Dino Facchini teamed up with Milan architect and designer Alessandro Mendini on the project which saw the major restoration of a fifteenth-century Venetian villa in the heart of Valpolicella wine country. A deeply personal project for Facchini, the hotel showcases his impressive art collection. The interiors are a sexy mix of styles, from baroque to pop art and techno futurism. Missoni is next in line to conquer the fashion business. Missoni, which has a successful home furnishings collection, has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with Rezidor SAS Hospitality, a Belgian hotel chain. The agreement will see the development of 30 Hotel Missonis, scheduled for completion by 2010. by Billy T
